Tenth Season of Jazz From Lincoln Center Will Be Produced

WFMT — Syndicator of Jazz Satellite Network with Bob Parlocha — Will Distribute

June 26, 2002

Jazz at Lincoln Center (J@LC), the world’s largest not-for-profit organization dedicated to jazz, announced today that its Peabody-Award-winning weekly radio program, Jazz From Lincoln Center hosted by Ed Bradley, will now be distributed and marketed by the renowned WFMT Radio Networks, through a new agreement between the two cultural institutions.

Jazz From Lincoln Center had been distributed by National Public Radio, but was dropped from its lineup for the coming season.

The 10th season of Jazz From Lincoln Center — which will begin October 1, 2002 — features performances by Benny Carter, Art Farmer, Barry Harris, Jon Hendricks, Bobby Hutcherson, Israel "Cachao" Lopez, Joe Lovano, Chico O'Farrill, Marcus Roberts, Randy Weston, Cassandra Wilson and the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis. Jazz From Lincoln Center’s premiere broadcast of Marsalis' Pulitzer Prize-winning Blood on the Fields, will also be featured.

Wynton Marsalis, Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center said, ”WFMT's Jazz Satellite Network is an ideal partner for our Jazz From Lincoln Center radio program. Their 30-year commitment to distributing cultural programs of the highest order will complement our organization’s dedication to bringing the best in jazz to as many people as possible around the world.”

Acclaimed for its "spectacular studio sound and informative interviews" by the George Foster Peabody Award, Jazz From Lincoln Center features recent J@LC concerts from around the world as well as classic live performances from the J@LC archives, mixed with artist interviews and historical anecdotes. Since its inception 10 years ago, CBS News 60 Minutes correspondent and J@LC Board Member Ed Bradley has hosted the hour-long program each season, providing succinct narrations that frame the music and educate listeners. Jazz From Lincoln Center is produced by Jazz at Lincoln Center and Murray Street Enterprise. Steve Rathe is the Senior Producer.

"For me, hosting Jazz From Lincoln Center has been a labor of love," stated Mr. Bradley. "I'm proud to mark the 10th season of this program with this new alliance with WFMT. Their commitment to Jazz From Lincoln Center, like their longtime commitment to 'The Midnight Special' and the Lyric Opera of Chicago, is particularly meaningful to us, and we look forward to more great performances, more stations, and more listeners in our second decade."

"The WFMT Radio Networks are delighted to be working with Jazz at Lincoln Center to bring this outstanding series to a wide and diverse national and international audience,” said Steve Robinson, Vice President, WFMT and the WFMT Radio Networks. “Our experience as producer and syndicator of the Jazz Satellite Network with Bob Parlocha, our recent marketing success with Steve Rowland's documentary programs on Miles Davis and John Coltrane, and the incredible response to our live, worldwide broadcast of the opera Princess Magogo from South Africa, puts us in an excellent position to syndicate and market Jazz From Lincoln Center."
