Arturo,
I don't make a habit of sharing my thoughts about recordings without some prodding but, I just heard the Rene Marie recording "Experiment In Truth" and I'm mesmerized by it! It's my favorite vocal recording this year. Her tribute to Nina Simone is superb!!! I love her non protest song, the nod to her Colorado ties, her take on Leonard Bernstein's "Some Other Time" etc, etc. It's one of those recordings that inspires me to keep opening these jewel cases. What a diamond in a sea of rough!!!
I spoke with Nancy Wilson earlier this year and she said to me, "Why don't more people know about Rene Marie? She is an amazing talent." Fancy Miss Nancy has great taste! I want to take a dip in the Colorado River!!
Aloha,
Bobby Jackson

Jae wrote <<< Has anyone heard The Chip Stephens Trio version of Silver's
"Cookin At The Continental?" My goodness...they are swingin hard. Beautiful
touch at the piano and eighth note phrasing. I forgot how much I liked that
tune. >>>
Another fine release on a Metro Denver label with Front Range musicians,
master bassist Ken Walker and swingin' drummer Tood Reid on Bailey,
Colorado's Capri Records. Chi was an instructor at Colorado university at
Boulder for several years before moving to southern Illinois, he amazed us
one afternoon with his live performance at our Oasis Performance Studio
about 2 years ago. Look for 2 fine new releases coming soon on Capri,
pianists Andy Nevala and the Jeff Jenkins led Cique(sick). Colorado's other
labels, Jazzed Media and Jazz Excursions have also released some exquisite
recordings this year as have Denver artists on their own indy labels led by
the recent René Marie Cd which I had René service many of you. Look for 2
new indy releases sure to find a place on your playlists, guitarist Charles
Gatschet and vocalist Wendy Fopeano coming to your desk soon.

''The New York Sessions'' (www.kochdistribution.com), the latest release by Lisa Hilton adds at radio August 6th. The CD has received rave reviews, and many stations jumped early on the music, already placing it in the most added section on two radio charts. As the producer, as well as the composer and pianist, Hilton finds the early response gratifying:
''In setting the tone for the session, I wanted to create tracks that were melodic, expressive and appealing. I think Christian McBride, Lewis Nash, Jeremy Pelt and Steve Wilson did an amazing job with the music, and it's thrilling that we're getting a strong response right away''. www.LisaHiltonMusic.com
