KUVO began broadcasting on August 29th, 1985, the birth date for Charles
Christopher Parker-the Immortal Bird, a serendipitous day for a full time
jazz station. This year jazz89KUVO will celebrate the occasion with two live
on-air broadcasts from the KUVO Oasis Performance Studio beginning with
Holly Hoffmann on flute and her husband Mike Wofford on piano at 11am (MTN)
on Wednesday, August 22nd.
On Thursday evening August 30th, we present Ricky Woodard and Paul
Bollenback accompanied by the Denver based trio of Henry Butler, Ken Walker
and Paul Romaine, this performance begins at 6pm (MTN) and will be part of
our annual Anniversary Party at the station with over 200 special members
and guests in attendance for the festivities which will include appetizers,
beverages and stimulating conversation.
We have just launched a new and improved home page with many interactive
features, although it is still under construction many of the new pages are
up n running including the KUVO reviews under the Programming section icon.
Available for reading now are a Neville Brothers concert and the Telluride
Jazz Celebration wrap up.
In September we will commemorate 2 special programming milestones, our
highly rated Sunday afternoon African Diaspora music show, Orgy:Origins in
Rhythm will reach its 20th anniversary and its host, Linard Scott-"Tata
Scotty" will have a special show with a live West African band performing at
jazz89KUVO and a club party with Scotty deejaying a 70s style night. The
hostess of Friday's evening shift, Rockin' In Rhythm, Justin J.C. Curlee,
"Mama Kat-The Senior Citizen of the Airwaves" will celebrate her 80th
birthday with a bash at a local cabaret with live music, Rockin' in Rhythm
is now in its 19th year on the air.
Last night at our premier jazz venue, Henry Butler performed a benefit for a
Colorado organization for the sightless. "Dining in the Dark" had Henry
playing solo while patrons were dining in the dark to get a feel of what its
like to be vision impaired-what an evening! Last weekend also at Dazzle,
René performed 3 sell out nights capped with a Saturday evening fund raiser
for a Denver based homeless organization, an evening inspired by the song
appearing on Ms. Marie's latest release based on the real life situation
involving René's brother, "This Is Not A Protest Song". The surprise for all
of us there Saturday night was that René announced the evening was being
recorded for her next album, she debuted many newly written original songs
which impressed me, René's compositional and music skills are outstanding.
That's the latest from where the "Great Plains meet the Rocky Mountains",
jazz and other creative music forms are alive n well on the radio and in the
venues of the "Mile High City".
