Last week I posted 2 quotes by Roland Kirk I found attributed to him in a
new 2 disc re-issue of his music on the Lone Hill jazz label, Today I opened
the new Blue Note album by the classical violinist Nigel Kennedy and he too
has a quote that moved me. He states "If you want to take a step away from
the present world of ultra capitalism and globalization, take an easy step
into the world of jazz in which unlike the rarified worlds of classical and
pop music, or the cynical worlds of banking, commerce and misdirected funds
by means of "democratic" politics, the musicians respect each other and
their audience as equals-belonging to and contributing to the community,
showing that abother type of world is possible."
Right On!!!!!!! I have often said the jazz is the true melting pot of
freedom and diversity, the real domocratic free and equal society that the
USA has bever become.
