That makes a LOT of sense. Byas' bluesy lyricism is much closer to the
language of Roland Kirk than Hawkins. I have a nice photo taken of Byas
talking to Monk after a performance in Den Hague - the photographer, who
is Dutch lives out here now and has given me several of his photographs
- my favorite is Eric Dolphy rehearsing for the last date with a very
young Han Bennik right beside him.
