In this context it's worth remembering Louis Bellson and Kenny Clarke. 
Denzil Best, Shelly Manne and Tiny Kahn also wrote some hip tunes. And Jim 
Black and Susie Ibarra are out there leading leading their bands and writing 
unusual pieces.
