Hello friends,

THE JAZZ SESSION

-- THE JAZZ SESSION #21: GENE BERTONCINI. Jason Crane interviews
guitarist Gene Bertoncini. Raised in the Bronx, Bertoncini began his
musical education at an early age, encouraged by his parents. He
studied architecture at Notre Dame before deciding on a life of
music. That decision was a smart one — Bertoncini has since performed
with the Metropolitan Opera orchestra, the Benny Goodman Sextet, Tony
Bennett, Buddy Rich, Wayne Shorter, Burt Bacharach, Michel LeGrand
and many others. He’s also on the faculty at the Tritone Jazz Camp
(tritonejazz.com). All the selections in this show are taken from
Bertoncini’s recording Acoustic Romance (Sons of Sound, 2003),
featuring drummer Akira Tana and bassist Rufus Reid.

THE GUIDE @ THE ISLAND PACKET

I used to work at the Island Packet, the newspaper of Hilton Head
Island. My good friend Jeff Vrabel now edits The Guide, the paper's
weekly entertainment magazine. This week's issue featured my
interview with singer Marlene Ver Planck:

TJS CAUSE OF THE MONTH

In May, I was asking you to support Bloggers for a Cure. That seemed
like such a good idea that I’ve decided to launch a regular feature,
The Jazz Session Cause of the Month. This month, it’s the Music Maker
Relief Foundation.

Music Maker Relief Foundation, Inc. helps the true pioneers and
forgotten heroes of Southern music gain recognition and meet their
day-to-day needs. They present these musical traditions to the world
so American culture will flourish and be preserved for future
generations. Their criteria for recipients are that they be rooted in
a Southern musical tradition, be 55 years or older and have an annual
income of less than $18,000. Music Maker Relief Foundation, Inc. is a
tax exempt, public charity under IRS code 501(c)3.

Please help these folks do what they do by visiting their Web site:

<http://www.musicmaker.org/index.php>

Thanks.

OTHER NEWS

I've started a new site at <http://rocbike.com> focused on bicycle
commuting and cycling advocacy. If you've got a spare minute, check
it out.

******************************************************

That's the update. I'll talk to you again next week.

Thanks again for being part of my little world. I'm glad to have you
in it.

Peace and love.

See you on the scene,

Jason
