In Virgil's arena Linda you're right but he has little to do with jazz. Over 90% of his fan base are rock drummers and most of them only dream of doing what he does. I bring him up because he's a superb fusion player and a great composer. I value that creativity.
I also don't recall folk talking about this term "Nu-Jazz" on the list so in that regard it's not "beating a dead horse." I was responding to that writer that basically dissed jazz music. Yes indeed, someone needs to stand up to that.

You're right nothing "comes close" to Virgil, etc.... because this is a
"different type" of "jazz"
Virgil and others are on a completely different level....
Just stating that it's "another " type of music that should not be ignored
for the sake of embracing "a younger audience".
I think this subject is like beating a dead horse.
