hey all - from George , KRML, CARMEL ,,, just spent the last 3
days at the 41st annual Montreux Jazz Festival. În regard to nu
jazz... just saw Erik Truffaz on stage. For me, this is nothing new.
Like JAE said,
it combines new age, smooth, watered-down fusion. From George... jazz
difinitivelY SWINGS -- this does not. Erik`s tones are dated,
reminencent of 60s 70s era POP. Low trumpet tones lacking spontenaity,
rhythm and diverse notes and melodies. (YAWN) While I am not
completely in touch with all nu jazz artists, if Truffaz is the norm
then I will have to continue to repeat to myself "AMERICA, the
birthplace of JAZZ, anywhere." (and I still do) See you at the 50th
Annual Monterey Jazz Festival in September! your man in Montreux --
George Fuller - Facilities Director KRML Jazz & Blues Radio
