Most PBS stations across the nation will air the Stax Records story in
commemoration of its 50th anniversary and its re-launching. The documentary
appears to be an in-depth look at the label's roots and its connection to
the Civil Rights Movement enhanced by its Memphis location. When most folks
were listening to Motown I was a die hard Stax fan and attended the famous
Watts Stax concert held at the Los Angeles Colliseum. Here in Denver,
jazz89KUVO is working with PBS' local 1st tier station Rocky Mountain PBS 6
and the wonderful indy records shop-Twist & Shout to announce the
documentary and its companion 2 CD set.

What I found a bit disconcerning is the choice for the group to re-launch
the Stax label as a new music label and not just a catalog label, it appears
that Soul Live will be the group to have the first album released on Stax.
What a horrific selection, I have nothing against Soul Live, they are a fine
group with a strong following and are better live than on recordings but
choosing them to re-launch Stax is akin to having Justin Timbalake or Fergie
to be the artist to re-launch Motown. This is what occurs when
multi-nationals and their attorneys in board rooms run the show....
