Jim,

Your comments are right on the mark regarding multi-track and multi-miking
being the major difference.

Some of the most "natural" sounding modern recordings, at least in my
opinion, are the most minimalist.  Engineering remains an art rather than a
science, and folks like Pierre Sprey have come up with some marvelous work.
And then there's Jim Anderson...  "Big ears" mean more than technology:
whatever works works.
