I know this person means well, but I, who not only listens to the blues,
but plays the blues (including work with some notable musicians) have
always been as uplifted by the blues as much as by any other music. The
problem with the honors is that fame is inevitably on of the criteria
for those who have to make the choice. Blues musicians, as well as jazz
and "roots music" musicians rarely become famous enough. Many
fundamentally important artists go unacknowledged because of this, and
perhaps the Kennedy Center should consider adding an unsung hero to each
of their ceremonies.
Ciao,
Paul
