<<ITunes has quietly placed highly designed laminated cards in 6,000
Starbucks locations to sell full-album downloads. It's the first time a major
digital retailer (iTunes) is selling downloads in a physical store (Starbucks). The
cards feature the album artwork and song selections. If the experiment
works, it could open the door to much greater consumer acceptance of digital
downloading.>>
"quietly" is right. in the stores i've visited, these cards are not
displayed prominently at all. i'm not sure i understand why when a large chunk of
their patronage is over 30 and could probably use more of a push in this
direction since they're more accustomed to a physical product than younger people.
seeing a plastic card in a discreet rack is not going to make someone
especially think "music."
