Two names jump to mind immediately: Jim Pepper and Anthony Braxton.

The first was a jazz player with Native American heritage and the  
latter's Ghost Trance Music Series is partially inspired by Native  
American Ghost Trance rituals, though that just scratches the surface  
of describing either performer and their connections to the subject.

Don Pullen's Blue Note CD, Sacred Common Ground, also springs to mind.
