Interesting, I don't know where YOU live, but here in Arizona, "innovative
performances" of the national anthem are NOT performed. Not at Baseball,
football, basketball or hocky games, EVER. Are you kidding? Patriots are
fanatics, and the flag and the anthem are like the Koran or the Bible to
them, absolutely sacred.
Personally I would not try it for fear of being shot, especially now that
the Supreme Court has said that everyone has a right to a gun. I'm sure
Renee sounded great, and I would have loved to hear her artistic
interpretation, maybe on her album. However I learned long ago not to mess
with the national anthem, at least not in a public anthem performance. It
isn't art, it's more like religion and I choose my battles carefully here in
Bushland.
Btw since people only heard Hendrix every third note, if that, I would say
that being innovative at Woodstock doesn't count.
