What if someone held a note longer than is traditional? When is the exact point of going to far? I know personally, when I hear a creative rendition of the tune, it gives me a whole new appreciation for it (maybe with the exception of Roseanne Barr).

I had the same thought this morning when I read Ed Bride's comment about
  "adorning" the national anthem.

I definetly agree! Thank you for saying it. Hendrix version was a
protest but some of these other versions are not. They are performed by
Americans expressing their patriotism. This is America. Aren't we free
to do that? Do I hear someone saying, "No, you aren't free to do that.
You must be patriotic my way."

How unAmerican is that!?!
