  The SF Jazz Collective will be playing at the Wharton Center on Wednesday, March 12 at 7:30p.m. A kind of Traveling Wilburies of jazz, this year’s model of the Collective features jazz stars Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas, Stefon Harris and Robin Eubanks, amongst others. They will be focusing on the music of Wayne Shorter, as well as their own compositions.
   
  I’ll also be playing the title tune from Linda Abar’s new recording as she readies for her local CD release party. And finally, we will remember the talents of the late drummer Buddy Miles, who proved a worthy foil to Jimi Hendrix in the immortal Band Of Gypsys.
