[JPL] Looking for BURNERS

I noticed that too Eric. It's like jazz is some sort of relic that can't seem to move away from where it had great moments. It's not the fault of the music.   
   
  By the way...I second you on "Lenox Avenue." I would go with the title track. Whew! Killin. One of my all time favorites. 
   
  Derrick...here's another one of my favorites...Off of Freddie Hubbard's "Super Blue." There is a track called "Take It To the Ozone." I remember playing with Joe Henderson years ago and he and I were talking and HE brought up that session. He talked about that tune and how difficult it was for him to play. I told Freddie that story last month and he almost got tears in his eyes. I don't think many gave Freddie his due as a composer.

Looking at what people are saying, you'd get the impression that no 
living people are making any burners. No doubt about the quality of 
Mingus or Blakey's music but is it really the case that most of the 
tunes we consider burners are by dead people?
