I was all ready to post some Coltrane and Cannonball, but Eric's right - for living people (and appropriate after the Grammys!) how about "One Finger Snap" from Herbie's Empyrean Isles (or his box set) with vintage Freddie. The fellas are just in cruise control on this medium-uptempo groove!
Also Wynton Marsalis' short-but-sweet version of "Cherokee" from Standard Time Vol.1 reminds us that, yes, he is indeed a killer trumpet player.

Looking at what people are saying, you'd get the impression that no
living people are making any burners. No doubt about the quality of
Mingus or Blakey's music but is it really the case that most of the
tunes we consider burners are by dead people?
