I understand everyone's aesthetic disdain for smooth jazz, and for the most
part, I share it; but I really don't understand all the righteous gloating
and smirking here, particularly from the broadcasters. (A bunch of people
have lost their jobs--friends of mine, good people, and good broadcasters
too). It's as if some of you feel vindicated by these events. Vindication
for what? Your good taste in music? Can you tell me with a straight face
that non-comm jazz radio doesn't have essentially the same survival issues
within its own sphere? Do you really think you're superior radio
programmers? Please. Have a little mercy, people. You may be the next one
voted off the island.
That Kenny G joke is 15 years old, by the way. zzzzzzzzz

I must be reading different posts than you or perhaps I am interpretation
challenged because at no time did I sense any "gloating, smirking,
vindication or superiorty in programming" using your words by any of those
responding to the demise of the smoove format. I also did not sense anyone
being happy that our colleagues hosting on those stations are out of a job.
I have never been against the music played on smoove formats nor do I have
anything against the personnel on air or in the offfices of those stations.
>From the initiation of the format known as "smmoth jazz" and its veering
away from its original fusion jazz roots, the "banning" of the creators of
fusion and the incorporation of pop and RnB vocals into the mix, I have been
a strong opponent to the MARKETING of the format and its confusion causing
effects. That is why I enjoyed reading the post by J. Scott Fugate of
Eclectic 89.1 WBCX who shared his experiences with listeners when his
station went from smooth to jazz.
