We are currently working on the production of the "Best of the 2007
Detroit International Jazz Festival" 2 hour Special. Last year's
Special ran on over 140 stations. This year's Special will feature
selected performances by Stanley Jordan, Russell Malone Quartet, The
Brubeck Brothers, Patti Austin, Conrad Herwig, Regina Carter, Kenny
Barron, Gerald Wilson, Clayton/Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Dave Brubeck,
Grace Kelly, Curtis Fuller Super Band, Carl Allen-Rodney Whittacker
Project, Poncho Sanchez, Maria Muldaur, Johnny O'Neal and Bettye
LaVette! WEMU's Linda Yohn will again voice the Special.

The Special should be available mid to late June. Carriage Agreements
will be sent out starting next month. We will once again offer a
contest to all stations submitting Carriage Agreements. Grand Prize
will again consist of round trip airfare for 2, 4 night accommodations
at the official Festival Hotel, invite for 2 to the world renown Dr.
Jazz Sunday Brunch and VIP credentials to the Festival. Last year's
winner, KSJS' Dr. Brad Stone, had this to say of his experience:

*"**The city is clean and beautiful, particularly the waterfront - an
ideal location for the Festival. The Festival itself was well-organized
and efficiently run - and I was impressed by the huge crowds that
regularly gathered to hear JAZZ - they showed that it is not necessary
to be like other Festivals around the country that call themselves Jazz
Festivals but then feature other kinds of music to attract large
audiences - the audience was certainly there for jazz music alone. The
venues for the various stages, and the sound on each, were terrific. I
understand now why the Detroit Jazz Festival has been hailed by so many
as THE premiere jazz festival in the country."*
