[JPL] PLAYLIST: "General Eclectic", WCVF-FM, 5/9/08 - new theme song!

"General Eclectic" premiered its new theme song, "Ievan Polkka" by the
Finnish group, Loituma, today. I used to use Kevin Burke's "Toss the
Feathers" back in the 1980's when I did an all-Irish show, but "GE" itself
has never had a theme song until now. I simply started talking, then played
the first song. I wasn't even thinking about having a theme, but the student
staff at the station started listening to this tune incessantly. Chief
Engineer Spencer Johnson suggested I gave it a listen and play it on "GE". I
only had to listen to it once to know I found my theme song - or perhaps
more accurately, it found me. The phone started ringing as soon as it was
over - looks like I picked a surefire winner! Thanks, Spence.
 The phones were also active for Rick Pickren's version of "Beautiful Ohio."
I first heard that song on an ancient (acoustically-recorded) 78 by Henry
Burr and Albert Campbell, which makes the production on Pickren's version -
the intro imitating the sound of an old acoustical recording - totally
relevant in my book. To the list:
