Joe Conzo is the most knowledgeable authority on Tito Puente, similar to
Phil Schaap with Charles Christopher Parker. That said, his take on Latin
jazz deserves to have been included in the famous issue of the New Yorker
with their "map" of the United Sates on the cover. Carlos Lando and I
returned last night from the Los Angeles Latin Jazz Festival at the Greek
Theatre in L A, the sky is not falling. true, Latin jazz in New Yok City and
Miami(NY's 6th borough) are in dire straights when it comes to the live
music scene but in many other areas of the country including Denver, Los
Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago et al have a thriving scene.
