[JPL] PLAYLIST: "General Eclectic", WCVF-FM, 10/31/08

Lots of listener response this week, beginning with the Nina Simone opener.
I didn't play a lot of Halloween-oriented songs, but there were a few,
rubbing elbows with some topical material for the upcoming elections. But
mostly, it was "just music", with the usual something for (almost) every
taste. No one track dominated, but I was particularly struck by a call from
an 83-year-old woman who told me how touched she was by the Janis Ian song.
Also attracting listener attention were Beoga's contemporary take on
traditional Celtic music, Latin-jazz by Scott Martin, Jessica Williams with
a Japanese-flavored piece, Jesse Gelber's rag-ish piano solo, Matt Brown's
Appalachian fiddling, Florida bigband leader Frank Derrick's arrangement of
a classic by the recently deceased Neal Hefti, Natacha Atlas' neo-classic
Egyptian sounds,  Lisa Theriot's American Celtic/folk, singer-songwriters
Bill & Eli Perras, Richard Thorne's straight-from-the-headlines "Bailing Out
the Big Boys", an angry politcal statement from the Nashville Session
Players, and David Kleiner's anthem-like call to the masses. To the list:
