Nostalgia 77 are my one my favorite bands. If you have been reading my cd
reviews for any amount of time you will have seen almost all of the releases
by Ben Lamdin's band featured. In producing British vocalist Lizzy Parks
debut release Lamdin has bought out the full range and depth of Parks
extraordinary voice along with some wonderful arrangements and
instrumentation.

 

Backed with rich orchestration from Riaan Vosloo and members of the
Nostalgia 77 Octet the release combines Parks fresh and modern personal
twist encompassing elements of styles from retro jazz and boogie soul to
ambient experimental music. The album is built on stunning live musicianship
and sumptuous strings combined with a traditional approach to recording
using vintage equipment and microphones. The second track is pure 60s rhythm
and blues whilst the track "Time" takes things in another direction with an
eerie sense of space. The jazziest track on the release "Spring Changes" has
a straight forward rhythm section and horn lineup with Parks voice digging
deep.

 

The Nostalgia 77 influence is noticeable throughout the release in the
groove and the horn riffs but Parks makes this her own vehicle. She is
without doubt one of the most talented and distinctive vocalists of the
moment.
