Subject: [JPL] Greetings from a loyal lurker
This week's sponsor: MACK AVENUE
Throughout his illustrious career,
saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist/composer Kenny Garrett has accumulated
multiple Grammy(R) nominations, countless collaborations, and a long list of
accolades from his peers. With SKETCHES OF MD, Garrett adds several historic
firsts to his resume: the first live recording of the Kenny Garrett/Pharoah
Sanders pairing, Garrett's first recorded set at New York City's famed
Iridium Jazz Club, and his first release on Mack Avenue. In addition to
Sanders, Garrett is joined on stage by Nat Reeves on bass, Benito Gonzalez
on keys and Jamire Williams on drums.

Mack Avenue is also proud to announce the signing of Grammy(R) Award-winning
acoustic and electric bassist Christian McBride. McBride, who will
celebrate his 20th year in the industry in 2009, has several projects in the
works for the Detroit based label, which will be unveiled in the upcoming
year.

Greetings, and a few quick thoughts from a loyal lurker:
1) I'm with Russ Haines on this:
I've been trying to wrestle the Wave Mechanics Union version of Killer
Queen out of my head for a week now and can't.
That cd has prompted some fun calls. Keri Gaffney's working it. Try it
"if you're that way inclined". ;-)
2) I can't recall who's sent us Half Note releases in the past... I'd love
to be playing McCoy Tyner's "Guitars". Who's working this one?
3) While by no means everybody's "cuppa", I suspect I'm not the only person
who's been attempting to get a copy of UPOJENIE,
the Pat Metheny & Anna Maria Jopek release. It's now been licensed to
Nonesuch for domestic release.
"BRAK" doesn't seem to be barking it up, but at least it's easily
available now, at a reasonable price.
4) I for one will eagerly read any best of the year lists members of this
august cohort contribute.
5) Demolition has begun at the corner of Ste. Catherine and Rue
Bleurry...sniffle. The whole block across from Salle Gesu is rubble.
They've probably leveled the Spectrum itself by now.
6) Rush Limbaugh is indeed a fatuous toad.
Warm regards,
David Beckett
