Nice to be back in the chair again, thanks to Cory Weeds and Marc Lindy for
filling in while I was indisposed. A few gig features, all still upcoming at
the Cellar: Grant Stewart/Tardo Hammer (co-pro with CJBS), Alain Bédard
(CJBS), and Victor Noriega (CD release). For the NOW Orchestra's Hear It Now
gig, I couldn't a void playing some of Jean Derome's tribute to Georges
Perec (eeeeeeeeeeeeeee!) Had a chance to chat with him at the concert, the
piece is based on a 'book of memories' by Georges Perec with a number of
wonderful playful elements (e.g. 26 movements, one for each letter of the
alphabet etc.)

Had a Barack Obama set with some Chocolate Cities and Black Presidents,
threw in Ella's FDR Jones for fun - not directly relevant but it does refer
to a new arrival! Other recent arrivals include the intriguing anthems
outing from Gary Dial and Terre Roche, the next installment in the Chet
Baker Legacy Series on enja, the Noriega, and the new McCoy Tyner on Half
Note etc.

Began and ended with a taste of McCoy Tyner, including Lenny's wonderful
take on McCoy's Visions, the recently discovered duet with Coltrane and a
private recording of the theme. More McCoy this Friday in preparation for
the show this weekend (any requests?), nods to the passing of Miriam Makeba
and Mitch Michell, and the usual mix ups ... N
