Following up to the "can't copyright chord changes" thread what
pianaist-composer-arranger René Touzet did was take the basic Cuban cha cha
chá, by the way it should always be called cha cha chá and not cha cha,
anyway the 1-2 cha cha chá, 3-4 cha cha chá was sped up a bit for an urban
big band recording and Touzet came up with the bridge?, the break beat vamp
that made Louie, Louie and gave it that Latin feel: dom dom dom, dom dom
dom dom dom, dom dom

Richard Berry former singer with the Coasters' previous encarnation The
Robins wrote Louie Louie as a calypso with perfectly coherent lyrics, the
Kingsmen's lead singer had oral surgery the morning of their recording
session and was still semi-dazed when he sang Louie Louie into an overhead
mike resulting in the muddy lyrics that made Louie Louie all the rage and
forcing it to be banned on many Top 40 AM stations because the words could
be interpreted to be anything you wanted it to be....
