I heard the story on Sunday morning. My quip about Hodges was a reaction to  
someone's comment about the software selecting which was the correct note if a 
 singer (and, I extrapolated, a saxophonist) intended to sing (play) when 
sliding  into or through the target note. It wasn't a criticism, it was an 
attempt at  humor.
