I've had a similar situation here in Canada, where I'm often organizing
and managing tours for Canadian jazz groups during and outside of the
jazz festival season. I play their music. I have no financial interest in
their recordings. I suppose the point could really be stretched that what
they pay me for my services is derived from additional cd sales from
touring, but I'm pretty sure we could shoot holes in that argument.
No one's complained yet.
There was a smooth jazz show here years ago, and the host, who
just happened to be one of the few Canadian smooth artists at the
time, met his Canadian content quotas with a lot of his own tracks.
No complaints as far as I know. Maybe some snickers.
