Dear jazz programmers -
If you haven't heard from me in a while, it's because I was laid off from
Sony Music in early March. I am now back in the game, joining forces with
Joyride Media and others in the Public Media Service, distributing their
programs and doing other radio promo work. Our version 0.5 website is now
live at http://www.publicmediaservice.org.
We have a new radio special to announce called "The '59 Sound" - in honor of
the 50th anniversary of 1959's landmark jazz albums by Miles Davis (Kind of
Blue, Sketches of Spain), Charles Mingus (Mingus Ah-Um), Dave Brubeck (Time
Out) and others.
The program will definitely be ready by the end of May, or for a June Black
Music Month feature. More details and an online signup form are at this
link:
http://www.publicmediaservice.org/category/59sound/
Can you let me know when you can air this? Limited giveaway CDs of the new
50th anniversary edition releases will be available.
As with all the other Joyride specials, the show will include both new and
archival interviews with artists involved with those recordings, plus
comments from well-known critics and contemporary musicians. You may also
hear from Legacy or Groov about this project, and you can respond to any one
of us. You can check the website for updates and those details are
confirmed.
Please also let me know if you'd like any of the other programs mentioned on
the website.
All the best,
Andy Cahn
