Derrick:

A few personal favorites of mine are:

- Mark Turner "She Said, She Said" from the WB CD "In This World" (1998)
- Janis Siegel & Fred Hersch "For No One" from the Varese Sarabande
CD "Slow Hot Wind" (1995)
- Eden Atwood "Fool on the Hill" from "Waves: The Bossa Nova Session"
(Groove Note 2002)

Also:

- Don Ellis at the Fillmore features a totally deconstructed, very
fun and often funny version of "Hey Jude" (1970)
- Brad Mehldau covers Martha My Dear and She's Leaving Home on Day is
Done, also Dear Prudence on Largo
- Gil Goldstein "In My Life" from the Blue Note CD of the same name
(also on a Blue Note compilation I believe, title escapes me)
- Bob Dorough "Norwegian Wood" from "Beginning to See the Light"
(Laissez-Faire 1976)
- Milton Nascimento "Hello Goodbye" from Angelus (WB 1994)
- Milton Nascimento/Gilberto Gil "Something" from Milton & Gil (WB 2000)
- Dave Ellis "Tomorrow Never Knows from Raven (Monarch 1996)
- Renee Rosnes "With a Little Help from My Friends" from Art & Soul
(Blue Note 1999)
- Freddie Hubbard gives Paul McCartney's "Uncle Albert/Admiral
Halsey" a far better treatment than the song deserves (First Light
CTI 1971). I think this entire recording features some of Freddie's
most gorgeous playing ever recorded. Certainly not the jazziest but
who cares? He sounds sublime. The tune is a post-Beatles and
pre-Wings tune though.
- George Benson "Here, There and Everywhere" from Tenderly (WB
1989). Getting pretty close to that Smooth Jazz thing but he sure
sounds mighty fine on this one.
