[JPL] Ai No Corrida

"Ai No Corrida" was actually written by Chas Jankel and Kenny Young. Chas Jankel was the guitarist with Ian Dury and The Blockheads, a British punk/new wave group whose early release was called "New Boots and Panties" and had a song called "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick". Quincy Jones covered "Ai No Corrida" after Jankel recorded it for his solo album. I played on some festivals with the Blockheads and was always impressed with what great music pulsed behind their ridiculous songs and presentation. So it didn't surprise me that Jankel wrote something that Jones would appreciate.

Wasn't there a version of this on one of Quincy Jones's 80's recordings ?

Hello JPL'ers.
I have a listener who says that he heard a version of "Ai No Corrida"
played by Michel Camilo 20 years ago on DUQ.
He was *really* impressed by the song, but didn't ask about it 20
years ago, and is now dying to find it.
No one here at the station remembers this or can find it anywhere.
Does anyone know of a Camilo version?
Thanks for the help!
-Shaunna

CHRISTIAN HOWES with Roger Kellaway: HEARTFELT
DEBUT @ 27 *
Howes continues to win over fans ... and radio. Please take a listen to this exceptional player. Kellaway's piano playing is powerful and swinging throughout. The interplay between Christian and Roger is amazingly intuitive for a first encounter. Christian's trademark passion pours through his instrument. Kellaway, an uber-mainstream pianist who has played with practically every jazz violinist of note -- Stephane Grappelli, Joe Venuti, Ray Nance, Jean-Luc Ponty, etc. -- says of the Berklee College of Music teacher, ''I think Christian is a major talent''
''The balance Heartfelt achieves here between solo, group interplay and orchestration is quite remarkable and leaves a lasting impression.''
