Perhaps not actual suites, more narratives however here goes, Duke
Ellingtons A Drum is a Woman and Jon Hendricks Evolution of a Blues
Song. Also, Charlie Shavers Story of a Jazz Trumpet, Dave Brubecks
The Real Ambassadors, Dizzy and Machitos Three Afro-Cuban Jazz Moods
the album also includes the 15 Oro, Incienso y Mirra (gold, incense &
myrhh)-the gifts of the Three Kings all written by the late Arturo Chico
OFarrill who also conducts the all-star orchestra. A previous post listed
Machitos Afro Cuban Orchestra and the Afro-Cuban Jazz Suite, there is also
the Second Afro-Cuban Jazz Suite from the following year, both are under
the music direction of Chico OFarrill. On the O S T of Calle 54, Paquito
DRivera performs the Pan American Suite which is a voyage to Latin
America with many different styles of music being played. The (Dámaso) Pérez
Prado Orchestras Concierto para Bongó, (the bongo concert) and Irakeres
Misa Negra(Black Mass), the Columbia Records live version is superior to
the Messidor Records studio version IMO. Finally, Prado also recorded The
Exotic Suite of the Americas and the Voodoo Suite
Happy listening!!!!!
Arturo
