Hello friends,

Last night, my son Bernie and I went to see Arturo O'Farrill's
Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra. What a band! They played a sold-out show at
the Spa Little Theater in Saratoga Spa State Park. Everybody in the band
had a chance to shine, with particular spotlights on folks like
saxophonist Bobby Porcelli and trumpeter Michael Philip Mossman. Every
tune was wonderful, but I was particularly moved by their performance of
"Afro-Cuban Jazz Suite," written by Arturo's father Chico O'Farrill. I
interviewed Arturo before the show, and you won't want to miss what he
had to say. That interview is scheduled to air on 7/20.

new partnership. If you'd like to feature the latest episode of The Jazz

THE JAZZ SESSION #60: MIKE MELITO. Jason Crane interviews drummer Mike
Melito. While not a household name among jazz fans, Melito is well known
to many jazz musicians, having played with everyone from James Moody and
Benny Golson to Joe Locke and Rachel Z. Melito is based in Rochester,
NY, and he made the decision early on to stay in his hometown and build
his career there. His 2008 album, In The Tradition, features saxophonist
Grant Stewart, trumpeter John Swana, bassist Neil Miner, and two fellow
Rochesterians — pianist Paul Hofmann and guitarist Bob Sneider.
