"Let's go Hunting with Hunter..."

Yes, I too remember Hunter Hancock. And before KBCA-FM Jazz at 105, there was KTYM-FM at 103.9 as I recall, which featured Jazz.

My groove, your move,

Askia Muhammad,
"Yardbird Sweets" @ WPFW-FM
Washington, DC

the topic of the Wolfman and R&B programmers...how about Hunter Hancock

anyone remember him?  But in Los Angeles, we had the Jazz station KBCA which

was in and of itself an incredible station for some time (pre KKGO days).

My family landed in So Cal-Pasadena in 1962 and I recall as a pre-teen
Hunter on KGFJ 1230AM then I understand he was convicted of income tax
invasion for failure to pay taxes during the payola scandal similar to Alan
Freed but Dick Clark escaped any prosecution of any kind but that's another
story.  In the early 80s when I met Johnny Otis, the "Godfather of RnB",
Johnny spoke highly of Hunter Hancock who was the first White dee jay  to
play RnB on the radio before Alan Freed on his Harlem Matinee Show where he
used Johnny Otis' Harlem Nocturne as his theme song.  I have a Hunter
Hancock compilation of oldies LP .  Hunter hosted both jazz and RnB radio
shows
