[JPL] Worst Radio Moment

This story goes back about 20 years ago when our station was in D.C.'s Chinatown, on the second and third floors above Jenk's hardware store. One Sunday afternoon I was on-the air (and the only one in the station) when I heard some noise out by the elevators. When I went to investigate, the door leading to the studios closed and locked behind me! After frantically searching for a way in, I ran outside and around the corner to the hardware store and somehow convinced the employees (who spoke very little English) to let me borrow a ladder. From the ladder I managed to climb up to the broken fire escape and then into one of the station's office windows, which fortunately was not locked. I got back to the studio to find the stylus playing the label of a Don Pullen record. Every phone line line was lit up with listeners (and some fellow programmers) calling to alert me that the record was over!
