Cecelia "Cookie" Powell Barnes, 60, of Durham, passed away on Sunday, March 
15, 2009.  She was born in Manhattan, NY and taught school in New York and 
North Carolina.  She is survived by two children,  Mary Elizabeth Garrison 
and Joshua Joseph Poole,  and a granddaughter Nia Jalloh.  Funeral services 
will be held on Friday, March 20, at 11:00am at St. John Missionary Baptist 
Church, 917 Onslow St., Durham, NC.   Internment will follow in Glenview 
Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends on Thursday March 19, 2009, 
from 6-8pm in the chapel of Scarborough and Hargett Funeral Home, 306 S. 
Roxboro St., Durham, NC.
