Brother of jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery dies
The Associated Press
PALMDALE, Calif.---Charles "Buddy" Montgomery, the brother of famed jazz
guitarist Wes Montgomery and an accomplished pianist and vibraphonist,
has died. He was 79.
His granddaughter Mykah Montgomery says he died from heart failure
Thursday at his home in Palmdale, north of Los Angeles.
Born and raised in Indianapolis, Montgomery wrote and arranged music
with his brothers Wes and Monk, a bassist, and went on to form Bay
Area-based group the Mastersounds.
He also founded the Oakland Jazz Alliance, pairing local talent with
established musicians.
Though he couldn't read music, Montgomery performed and recorded with
the likes of Miles Davis and Bobby Hutcherson.
