9:00 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. Welcome, Ed Trefzger, JazzWeek
9:30 a.m – 10:45 a.m. Advanced Programming Workshop. An expert panel will lead the discussion on how to develop a disciplined playlist. Pointers will be given on how tight to make a playlist (e.g. how not to dilute your playlist, 40 new releases vs. 90, frequency of rotation, singles vs entire albums, how often to repeat a track, etc.). Moderated by Brad Stone, www.soulandjazz.com.
10:45 a.m. – 12:00 a.m. Radio Promotions 2014. Join a round table discussion strategies to better communicate with each other. Moderated by Neal Sapper, New World and Jazz.
12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.: Lunch
2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Radio Working with the Community: Emphasis on Festivals. How can all of our stations work better and more closely with our local communities for the benefit of all? How can jazz radio work effectively and constructively with jazz festival promoters and organizations within their own communities? Moderated by TBD.
3:30 – 3:45 p.m.: Break
4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. The Art of the Interview. An example of a radio interview will be conducted with a music industry legend and/or an artist. The interview will be conducted by TBD. A discussion will then ensue on the finer points of the interview process.
Jazz Week Awards: Dinner at 7:00 p.m. at The Blackbird Annex, musical performance TBD.

9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.: Keynote Address
10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Record Production with Radio in Mind. How can promising artists produce an album that will be most appealing to radio, with the goal in mind to get radio airplay? What are the pitfalls, and what are the pointers? A panel of distinguished radio programmers and promoters will lead a discussion geared towards artists aspiring to make their first album, or to improve upon their previous releases in this regard. The discussion will include both instrumental and vocal albums. Moderated by TBD.
11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.: Lunch
1:30 p.m – 3:00 p.m.
Internet Radio – Update, and How to Build a Secondary Stream. We’ll hear from a number of panelists noted for their work in the internet jazz radio scene, and get update as to what is new since we last met. Also, we’ll discuss how terrestrial radio can jump on board and set up secondary internet radio streams. Moderator: TBD.
3:00 p.m. – 3:15 p.m. Break
3:15 – 4:45 p.m JazzWeek Town Hall. Host: Tom “The Jazzman” Mallison. Once again, we wrap things up with a true “round table” discussion that many past attendees have felt is the most productive part of the entire summit. A real “roll up our sleeves and let’s do something” debriefing. In particular, the status of the JazzWeek Summit for future years will be discussed.

7:00 p.m. San Jose Jazz Summer Festival, kicks off on the Main Stage! Bootsy Collins!!
