9:30 a.m – 10:45 a.m. Defining Success 2.0
What does success in jazz radio mean to you? Last year, our dear friend Scott Willis and a panel of radio personnel discussed taking a fresh look at how to create success by sharing new and innovative ways to present jazz and engage audiences. We’d like to build upon Scott’s vision and revisit this topic. Moderator: Rob Linton, WGMC

How can people with no time for social media begin to use social media? How can we use the collective resources of the jazz community to help us use FB, twitter, and other social media platforms more effectively? An introduction as to how to effectively use social media for those who are intimidated by Facebook, Twitter, other platforms. Moderator: Brian Hurst, SoulandJazz.com

What is your brand? One of the keys to success is the ability to understand and effectively market your brand. Marc Free leads a panel discussion designed to help you build your brand and communicate your message to your audience. Moderator: Marc Free, Posi-Tone Records.

3:45 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Radio and Promotion: 2017
Effective partnerships are essential to our success. Those of us working in radio and promotion rely on each other to present and promote this music. We’re dedicating the afternoon to an open and frank discussion of the key issues facing our industry with the aim of improving communication, identifying common goals, and strengthening our partnership. Some possible topics: what makes sense in the present day and age for artists to promote their CD to radio, via independent radio promotion? What do they gain from getting national radio play and chart action? What new strategies can be brought to the table? How do promoters handle internet radio? 10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.: JazzHubs in America: New Sources to Help Maximize the Impact of Jazz in Your Community & Beyond. Understanding the Jazz Ecosystem & Putting it to Work.
Jazz Forward Coalition, a diverse and inclusive alliance of Jazz professionals devoted to advancing the genre and industry through coalescence and collective action, has crisscrossed the country and found an enormous appetite for the Jazz stakeholders to work together. But what does that mean to you? Together, we will explore new concepts, new levels of cooperation, and mutually beneficial opportunities that will help the work you do, as well as those within the Jazz Ecosystem, to support the notion that radio maintains a strong voice of Jazz in the local-to-national community and can help bring the many stakeholder resources together. Facilitators: Peter Gordon and Shannon Wallace

1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. The Promoter’s Tookit 2.0: CD Previews and Downloads
A follow up discussion to last year’s very exciting and productive show and tell time! A demonstration of the various software programs, websites and other resources being used by record labels and independent promoters to offer electronic previews and digital music downloads to radio stations and program producers. Moderator: TBA

3:15 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. JazzWeek Technology Update
Ed Trefzger, publisher of JazzWeek, will present a brief update on technology that could lead to monitored airplay.
3:45 – 4:45 p.m. JazzWeek Town Hall. “The Takeaway”
Once again, we wrap things up with a true “round table” discussion that many past attendees have felt is the most productive part of the entire summit. A real “roll up our sleeves and let’s do something” debriefing. Moderator: Mike Carlson
6:00 p.m – 11:00 p.m. Posi-Tone Records Showcase @ San Jose Jazz Summer Fest
Art Hirahara, Roxy Coss, & Josh Lawrence will perform on the JazzWeek Stage at Café Stritch as part of the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest. The event is free to all registrants.
