SAN JOSE, California – Jazz radio stations, jazz radio programmers, record labels and contributors to the jazz radio community were recognized at the 2014 JazzWeek Awards, presented at the Blackbird Tavern in San Jose. The awards reception was sponsored by North Coast Brewing Company, Fort Bragg, California, brewers of Brother Thelonious Belgian-style Abbey Ale. Michael Carlson of MC Promotion was awarded the 2014 Duke Dubois Humanitarian Award, presented each year to an individual whose dedication to jazz and jazz radio has been exceptional. Jazz radio to play key role in JazzApril campaign

Jazz broadcasters will have a key role in JazzApril, a campaign to put jazz in the media spotlight during the month of April. The Smithsonian National Museum of American History has designated April as Jazz Appreciation Month (JAM). The month will end on April 30 with  International Jazz Day celebrations around the world, including a live webcast from Istanbul, Turkey, featuring keyboardist Herbie Hancock and long list of other jazz luminaries and produced by UNESCO in partnership with the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.   DETROIT — Legendary WGBH jazz broadcaster Eric Jackson was named the 2012 recipient of the Duke Dubois Humanitarian Award, presented each year to an individual whose dedication to jazz and jazz radio has been exceptional.
